How to set up the WhatsApp Business API for your business (the easy way)
If you've ever looked into the WhatsApp Business API, you've probably bounced off the same wall everyone does: business verification, a Meta developer account, webhooks, message templates, phone-number registration. It reads like a project, not a setting. The good news is that most of that complexity no longer has to land on your desk.
1chime uses Meta's embedded signup flow, which folds the whole connection process into a single guided pop-up. You stay inside 1chime the entire time, log in with the Facebook account that manages your business, and approve the permissions in one go. The technical wiring — webhooks, the API connection, template syncing — happens behind the scenes.
What you'll need before you start
A short checklist saves you a lot of back-and-forth. Have these ready and the connection takes minutes, not days:
- A Facebook Business account that manages (or can create) your business.
- A phone number that isn't already registered to a personal WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app. You can migrate one, but a fresh number is simplest.
- Your business name and a display name for the WhatsApp profile your customers will see.
- Admin access to 1chime so you can complete the connection for your workspace.
The connection, step by step
From your 1chime workspace, open the WhatsApp settings and choose to connect a number. The embedded signup window opens, you sign in to Facebook, pick or create the business and WhatsApp Business account, and register the phone number you want to use. Meta sends a verification code to that number; enter it, and the number is live on the API.
Once that's done, 1chime pulls in your approved message templates automatically and your shared inbox starts receiving messages. There's no separate developer step — the account you just connected is yours, on your own number, billed through your own WhatsApp Business account.
After you're connected
Connecting the number is the start, not the finish. Invite your team so everyone replies from the same inbox, draft a few message templates for the questions you answer most, and decide whether an AI bot should handle first responses. From there, every conversation lands in one place — assignable, searchable, and tied to the lead it belongs to.
That's the whole point of doing it the easy way: the API stops being a project you dread and becomes a number your whole team can answer.
